About this project

We were selected by contractor The Leadbitter Group to provide nursery and school furniture for a £10.5 million state of the art new build project for Wood Farm Primary School and Slade Nursery in Headington, Oxfordshire.

The contract also called for something different – curved school furniture for the classrooms, play space, toilet and nappy changing area.

“The design of the new school broke from traditional shapes, so it was fitting that the furniture would do the same. The result is fantastic, with curved desks and therefore curved loose furniture to match. Having worked with David Bailey before, the contractors knew the quality of our special education furniture and were confident in our ability to deliver. We didn’t let them down.” Trevor Gillman, Managing Director, David Bailey Furniture.

Education furniture for Wood Farm & Slade Nursery

Phase one of the construction was completed by The Leadbitter Group last year and delivered a children’s centre, a Sure Start and community centre and a café area. Phase two includes construction of a new hall and teaching spaces for the primary school, while phase three will deliver additional general teaching spaces. Extensive external works to provide play areas and sports facilities are also included in the contract.

Contractor The Leadbitter Group won the three-phase project to rebuild the primary school and nursery. Proud of its extensive portfolio, covering project financing, property development, pre-construction management and design, alongside a first class construction delivery capability, The Leadbitter Group – the leader in its field – only sources high quality materials from reliable and cost-effective suppliers. David Bailey was the education furniture specialist of choice as The Leadbitter Group had worked with the Kent-based company previously.

School rebuilding programme

Update July 2020: We welcome the recent pledge by the prime minister, Boris Johnson, to provide a £1bn schools rebuilding programme over a 10-year investment plan for upgrades and refurbishments. This is the first major schools rebuilding programme since 2014 and will make sure our schools and colleges are fit for the future. It is part of the prime minister’s plan to provide a world-class education for children and to help the economy bounce back from this year’s coronavirus crisis.
