Education furniture for Clapton Girls Technology College
The project, managed by contractors Mansell Construction Services Limited, included the installation of college and technological furniture in three separate phases. Phase one and two saw the refurbishment of the college’s Pankhurst and Rosa Park technology buildings. The final phase focuses on the refurbishment of the Marie Curie building and is due for completion in February 2010.
Refurbishment
Areas of the school already to benefit from David Bailey’s college refurbishment project include the learning resources centre, the reprographics studio, the media suite, the interview room and the staff kitchens.
Trespa worktops
Technology furniture needs to be sturdy and hard-wearing to withstand intrusive use. Solid laminate Trespa worktops from David Bailey’s Education range were installed in the reprographics studio to provide resistance against heat and chemical substances and help promote a safe working environment. In the staff kitchens, stainless steel worktops were used to compliment the fitted kitchen storage units, achieving a sleek and stylish finish.
Versatile furniture range
Trevor Gillman, Managing Director of David Bailey Furniture Systems Limited, commented: “It is wonderful to be able to add Clapton Girls Technology College to our portfolio of education furniture projects. Our portfolio includes primary and secondary school refurbishments, college and university furniture installations and a growing number of specialist furniture projects, from schools with special educational needs to specialist colleges and universities. The versatility of our Education range of fitted furniture means that it is suitable for application in educational establishments of varying scales and requirements.”

Education furniture installations
Our specialist education furniture is installed in many schools, colleges and further education facilities. We have recently been selected by main contractor E W Beard to manufacture furniture for Headington Girls School in Oxford, in a £65,000 contract. This will be for 45 units and 100 metres of worktop in 11 classrooms. The work will start in November 2020. Other education customers include:
- Yateley Community School, Hampshire
- Channing School, London
- University of Wales
- Clore Shalom School, Hertfordshire
Architects and Contractors rely on us because they know we are well established and professional and our durable furniture is manufactured in Britain with craftsmanship and professionalism. We also install our own furniture into a facility, so there is no need to ensure a contractor has installation instructions.
School rebuilding programme
Update July 2020: We welcome the recent pledge by the prime minister, Boris Johnson, to provide a £1bn schools rebuilding programme over a 10-year investment plan for upgrades and refurbishments. This is the first major schools rebuilding programme since 2014 and will make sure our schools and colleges are fit for the future. It is part of the prime minister’s plan to provide a world-class education for children and to help the economy bounce back from this year’s coronavirus crisis.
