Education furniture for West Thames College

The £128,650 installation of fitted college furniture included 600 metres of worktops, plus units and shelving in a harmonious contrast of vibrant and muted colours, transforming the college refurbishment. The project, worth an initial £117,984 with a further £4,674 allocated for the under-bench units and a further £5,995 for the coffee shop counter, was brought to David Bailey Furniture Systems directly by contractors Atlantic Contracts.

David Bailey fits the bill on all fronts

Ryan Hayes, Senior Buyer at Atlantic Contracts, said: “When sourcing products to complete a contract we look for quality goods, reliable service and, of course, value for money. If we get it wrong it is our reputation on the line. David Bailey Furniture Systems fit the bill on all fronts giving impeccable service and delivering on time when required, therefore enabling us to complete the contract in a timely manner, while providing a quality finish which we could all be proud of. It’s good to know that David Bailey Furniture Systems provides furniture for other sectors too. We know who to approach next time.”

Rise and fall worktops

Trevor Gillman, Managing Director of David Bailey Furniture Systems Limited, commented: “It is wonderful to be able to add West Thames College to our portfolio of education furniture projects. The unusual part of the college furniture installation contract was making the ‘rise and fall’ worktops and sinks in line with guidelines from the Developmental Disabilities Association (DDA). However, the versatility of our Education range of fitted furniture means that it is suitable for application in educational establishments of varying scales and requirements.

“As anyone who views the project photos on our website can testify, the end result looks great.”

Education furniture installations

Made in BritainOur specialist education furniture is installed in many schools, colleges and further education facilities. We have recently been selected by main contractor E W Beard to manufacture furniture for Headington Girls School in Oxford, in a £65,000 contract. This will be for 45 units and 100 metres of worktop in 11 classrooms. The work will start in November 2020. Other education customers include:

  • Yateley Community School, Hampshire
  • Channing School, London
  • University of Wales
  • Clore Shalom School, Hertfordshire

Architects and Contractors rely on us because they know we are well established and professional and our durable furniture is manufactured in Britain with craftsmanship and professionalism. We also install our own furniture into a facility, so there is no need to ensure a contractor has installation instructions.

School rebuilding programme

Update July 2020: We welcome the recent pledge by the prime minister, Boris Johnson, to provide a £1bn schools rebuilding programme over a 10-year investment plan for upgrades and refurbishments. This is the first major schools rebuilding programme since 2014 and will make sure our schools and colleges are fit for the future. It is part of the prime minister’s plan to provide a world-class education for children and to help the economy bounce back from this year’s coronavirus crisis.
